Our February 2017 Volunteer of the Month is A’lana Baldwin. A’lana is a senior at University Prep Science and Math High School who can often be found in our Spark!Lab or Kids Town areas volunteering and inspiring little ones to like science. She has also been very helpful in encouraging her fellow students to start volunteering as well and we cannot wait to see what she does in college and with her career.
It is very important that I support the community I live in. Giving back to people makes me very delighted. I enjoy making others smile and I strive to do that all the time. When I was in middle school I was invited to the Science Center on many occasions. As I attended these field trips I started to develop a strong interest for the various activities and displays the Science Center offered. Volunteering at the Science Center has been an amazing experience. I feel like I am myself when I am there. I enjoy working with the younger kids and making them laugh. It’s very impressive to observe the creative minds these children have. It reminds me so much of myself when I was a child. I also like being around all the creativeness and technology. There is never a dull moment when I am volunteering at the Michigan Science Center. I can see myself being a part of the team in the future. I aspire to be an engineer and as I become a successful one, I plan to use my skills to also improve the lives of younger generations. Everything that the Science Center has to offer is very interesting and rewarding. I look forward to volunteering at the Michigan Science Center in the future and seeing all of the new exhibits it will have to offer.
