The Michigan Science Center will rejoin museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently-serving U.S. military personnel and their families this summer. The 2022 program begins on Armed Forces Day on May 21 and ends on Labor Day, Sept. 5. Blue Star Museums is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums nationwide.

The program offers free admission for military families (including up to five family members):

  • Proof of active military duty is required (Geneva Convention common access card, DD1173, or DD1173-1).
  • Family is defined as spouse, child, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.
  • An active duty member does not need to be present.

The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard as well as members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps. Since proof of active military duty is required, discounts will only be offered for walk-in guests.
