We are delighted to announce a special weekend showing of  the educational version of “God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines” February 24 and 25 at the Michigan Science Center. The film will be shown at 10:30 A.M. 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. on Saturday February 24, and 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M. on Sunday February 25. This documentary tells the true Black origin story of Techno music in Detroit. The 60-minute educational version is optimized for an all-ages audience. It connects the dots between the evolution of Black dance music from Bebop through Motown into the Afrofuturist movement that is Techno music. The film chronicles the launch of this new music genre right here at home in the “D” in the early 1980s. Techno quickly became an international sensation, and a key inspiration for the burgeoning Electronic Dance Music industry of today. The feature-length version of God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival 2022, and it has captivated audiences at film festivals worldwide since.Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about these innovative instruments and their connection to the evolution of music.
