Sci Chats – Tales From the Galaxy With Moiya McTier, Ph.D.
Date: June 9
Join us on Sunday, June 9, at 11:30 A.M for a Sci chat with Moiya McTier, astrophysicist and folklorist, to learn how cultures across the world have thought about their place in the universe and explore her method of blending both science and storytelling in her work.
For all of human existence, we’ve looked to the sky—but we haven’t all told the same stories about that sky. Some cultures saw groups of stars and connected them to make shapes like Orion or Scorpio, while others paid more attention to the vast voids between the stars and created so-called “dark constellations.” People told stories about planets, the Sun and Moon, and the Milky Way stream.
