Webelos Workshop: Engineer

November 26, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

A group of webelos scouts work on a science project

The Webelos Engineer workshop is intended to allow scouts to fulfill the requirements of the Engineer adventure loop through the completion of hands-on activities and exploration of the Michigan Science Center. Click here to register as a group or as an individual.

Pick one type of engineer. With the help of the Internet, your local library, or an engineer, discover three things that describe what that engineer does. (To use the Internet, be sure that you have a current Cyber Chip or that you have permission from your Webelos den leader, parent, or guardian.) Share your findings with your Webelos den.

Activity sessions include:

  • Simple & Complex Machines – Scouts will learn about simple and complex machines. They will build a catapult and experiment with how different factors of a catapult affect its efficiency. Scouts will also learn how to draw a floor plan and determine scale.
  • Let it Glide – Scouts will construct a glider out of a shoebox and various materials.
  • Being an Engineer – Scouts will meet an engineer and discuss different occupations in engineering.
