Join us in Centennial Lab for a variety of fun, hands-on chemistry experiments courtesy of BASF. Discover the important role that chemistry plays in everyday life.

January: Energy Loves Produce
Can potatoes tell time? Can lemons light up? Stop by and find out how electricity can be generated using some popular produce.

February: Chemistry is Bananas
What do you have in common with a banana? Put on your gloves and goggles in order to get the answer to this question. You will be rewarded with a firsthand look at an amazing material that makes all life possible.

March: Playful Polymers
Slippery, ooey and gooey… Oh My! Explore how polymers behave using some common household ingredients. Your slimey creation is yours to keep.

Lemons and vinegar …. Bananas and Baking soda … what do these seemingly weird pairings have in common? Come explore the pH scale using two very different methods. Do you have a nose for chemistry?

Oil and water do mix in this experiment! Understand the key role emulsifiers play in a popular body product. Apply this knowledge while mixing up your very own hand lotion that is yours to keep.

Calling all science sleuths! We’ve gathered the evidence. Now, we need your help! Grab some markers and filter paper and explore how chromatography can be used to solve some silly mysteries.
