Urban Skies – Equitable Universe is an exciting out-of-school program just for 7th and 8th graders! Created by the Michigan Science Center and the American Museum of Natural History, this program lets you dive into the wonders of space and explore our Solar System like never before. This program is offered free of charge for students. We are currently seeking 7th and 8th-grade students to be Junior Navigators!

Over 40 hours of fun and interactive learning, you’ll get to use OpenSpace, a space visualization software developed with NASA support. This tool lets you fly through space and navigate the Earth, Moon, and Mars using real scientific data. As a Junior Navigator, you’ll learn how to use this technology, create your own flight paths, and create your own presentations to share with the public.

You’ll even get to meet real scientists, hear about their exciting careers, and see what it’s like to work in the field. Plus, you’ll practice telling science stories about your space adventures!  This 10-week program will take place on the following Saturdays from 10 am-3 pm with lunch provided: 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/26, 11/2, 11/16, 11/23, 12/7, 12/14

This project is supported by NASA cooperative agreement award #80NSSC23M0079, under the Teams Engaging Affiliated Museums and Informal Institutions (TEAM II) activity of NASA’s Next Gen STEM Project.
