The STEMinista Project is an initiative started by the Michigan Science Center to connect girls to role models as a resource in order to see themselves in STEM.
By creating opportunities to practice basic inquiry, analysis, and problem-solving through fun and interactive learning activities, Mi-Sci’s STEMinista Project seeks to place HER at the center of science by empowering girls to lead the next generation of STEM innovators. We are so excited to be relaunching this project with the STEMinista Statewide Initiative!

What is the STEMinista Statewide Initiative?
Mi-Sci, is excited to expand the STEMinista Project to a statewide initiative that aims to connect 6th-8th grade girls from around the state in order to form a community of girls passionate about STEM learning. Our hope is also to connect this community of girls with female STEM Role Models. This virtual cohort will attend trainings and workshops about presenting, public speaking, and sharing information in engaging ways. They will also explore STEM careers through workshops and panels where they’ll meet female STEM role models and have an opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like being a woman in STEM. Participants will also get to select a role model for 1:1 mentorship and coaching. By the end of the program, this cohort will have worked with their mentor and Mi-Sci staff to deliver a live-streamed presentation to a large audience.

Science is for Everyone
At Mi-Sci, we believe science is for everyone. We also believe that everyone should get to experience connection and scientific exploration regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, or gender. The STEMinista Statewide Initiative cohort applications, as well as the Role Model database, are open to all individuals from under-represented groups in STEM fields. Girls, women, and trans/non-binary individuals are welcome in this space.
The mission of the Michigan Science Center is to inspire curious minds of all ages to discover, explore and appreciate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in a creative, dynamic learning environment.
