Tara Chippewa

Refinery shift foreman – Marathon Petroleum

Introducing Tara Chippewa – a fearless STEM professional paving the way for women in male-dominated fields!  Tara is a multifaceted artisan, who has seamlessly transitioned from a welder to a field equipment operator, then to a process control operator, and most recently, taken the reins as a Shift Foreman.

Tara is driven by the passion to learn more, and she’s continuing her educational journey while working. She’s currently on her way to complete her associate degree in Welding, after which she’ll embark on her mission to earn a bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering.

Throughout her work life, academic endeavors, and personal pursuits, Tara has found herself surrounded by male counterparts. But instead of hitting the brakes, she’s charged ahead and shattered stereotypes, establishing herself as a trailblazer and role model for aspiring female STEM professionals.

Tara’s tenacity and indomitable spirit have earned her admiration and respect from her peers. With her strong foothold in the world of STEM, she’s not only demonstrating her personal prowess but also empowering future generations of women to shatter the glass ceiling and follow their passions unapologetically.

Kudos to Tara Chippewa – a remarkable STEM practitioner and beacon of inspiration who continually defies the odds and champions gender equality in every sphere of her life!

Tell us about a hobby or activity you enjoy outside your STEM career.

I compete in Scottish Highland Games during the spring and summer. Highland games are heavy athletics which includes throwing hammers, stones, weights and cabers (the big telephone poles)
