Michigan Science Center Chief of Staff, Andrea Harp, a 2022 Michigan Chronicle “40 Under 40” Honoree

Detroit, Mich., July 1, 2022 – Andrea Harp, The Michigan Science Center’s (MiSci) chief of staff and director of culture and community, was recognized as a “40 Under 40” Honoree by the Michigan Chronicle during an induction ceremony last night.

Every year the Michigan Chronicle 40 Under 40 Awards recognizes local African American young professionals impacting all sectors of greater Detroit who inspire others through their vision, leadership, exceptional achievements and participation in community service. Many are trailblazers pushing the envelope in journalism, fashion, music, the arts, law, education, medicine and finance.

“I am grateful to be chosen by the Michigan Chronicle and am inspired by all the 2022 honorees and those who have come before us,” Harp said. “We stand together as examples of how community service, collective impact and excellence can strengthen our communities. Additionally, I’m indebted to my family, friends, and colleagues who support me and my work daily.”

Harp joined MiSci in 2019 as the community partnership manager for the STEMinista Project, providing high-quality STEM programming to marginalized girls while linking them to 250+ STEM role models and mentors. In addition, she expanded capacity statewide along with MiSci’s collaborative partnership opportunities.

MiSci promoted her to a dual role of chief of staff and director of culture and community, where she oversees the center’s initiatives from conception to completion. She also develops and implements MiSci’s diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility framework to strengthen its workplace culture and community connections.

“Andrea is a tremendous asset to the Michigan Science Center, and we are all so proud of the accolades she has received this year for her fine work,” said Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO. “She is an integral part of our initiative to promote program participation and increase girls’ interest in STEM careers and is an amazing mentor and role model for our community.”

Prior to MiSci, Harp served as a Mentor Michigan consultant for the Michigan Community Service Commission and was the Youth Empowerment Program Manager for Operation HOPE. She was also a program manager for NeuroRestorative and founded Ladies Affecting Change Everyday, which seeks to support and empower young women. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Spring Arbor University.
