Michigan Science Center Creates Winding Indoor Maze Experience for Exploration of Detroit’s Landmarks

Opening on May 9th and sponsored by The Skillman Foundation, Ford Philanthropy and Welch Packaging.

Detroit, Mich., May 6, 2026 – Starting on Saturday, May 9th, the Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) is bringing an exciting cardboard maze exhibit to Detroit called: A-MAZING Detroit: All Paths Lead to Mi-Sci.

This exhibit is generously sponsored by The Skillman Foundation, Ford Philanthropy and Welch Packaging and will be offered for a limited time. This life-sized cardboard maze experience lets curious minds of all ages explore Detroit, one turn at a time, inside the Michigan Science Center. Access is included with Mi-Sci general admission.

“They say the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but at Mi-Sci, we prefer the path of curiosity. By building the largest cardboard maze in the country, we’re inviting Detroiters to step inside a giant, artistic representation of the brain’s own logic,” said President and CEO, Dr. Christian Greer. “This isn’t just a game; A-MAZING Detroit is a love letter to the city and an immersive journey through our galleries and local neighborhoods where every turn is an opportunity for a breakthrough.”

“Welch Packaging is excited for the opportunity to sponsor the Michigan Science Center Team as their selected Corrugated Partner,” said Brian Bazick, General Manager of Welch Packaging – Detroit. “We are certain this exhibit will provide an engaging experience centered around corrugated materials and the many creative applications it offers in our everyday life.”

Wind through pathways filled with bold mural art inspired by Detroit’s neighborhoods, landmarks, and culture — and find featured Mi-Sci spaces along the way.

As patrons navigate the maze, they will discover how art, design, and engineering come together to make Detroit a city driven by innovation.

Outside the maze, guests can command robots through mini cardboard mazes, build their own cardboard creations, and even play cardboard skee-ball while exploring the creativity, design, and engineering behind cardboard construction.
