Detroit, Mich., August 17, 2022– With support from Aramco Americas, The Michigan Science Center (MiSci), has brought back its popular Traveling Science Program that will run through May 2023 with geographic availability throughout the Lower and Upper Peninsula. To celebrate the program’s return, MiSci will host a public event on Wednesday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to noon that will include live science demonstrations from MiSci educators.
Since 2012, MiSci has brought high-energy, hands-on, STEM experiences to libraries, community centers and schools across Michigan through its Traveling Science Program. MiSci is taking online requests for reservations for this program and other engaging science workshops, group presentations and interactive experiences.
“We are incredibly excited to have Aramco Americas’ continued support for our ever-popular outreach programs,” said Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center. “It’s not always easy or affordable for some communities and schools to visit us on field trips. This partnership helps MiSci take its STEM shows on the road, providing fun, hands-on learning experiences that put Michigan youth at the center of science.”
The energy company is active in the Metro Detroit area with its Aramco Research Center-Detroit, located in Novi, developing innovative transportation solutions. It is also a founding member of the ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials in Farmington Hills.
Last year, from June 2021 to May 2022, the Aramco Traveling Science Program served 46,445 people at 104 events at schools, libraries, summer childcare and after-school programs, and other community groups in Michigan and Ohio.
“We are a company committed to R&D and technology. With continued support for the Michigan Science Center and STEM programs across the U.S., we look to spark interest among youth in science and innovation,” said Nabeel I. AlAfaleg, president and CEO, Aramco Americas.”
The activities at the August 24 celebration are:
- Food Web Jenga – Add and remove blocks from this game of Jenga to represent different events that affect the stability of an ocean ecosystem and appreciate how small changes in the ecology of an ocean environment can have a large impact!
- Frostology – See some ‘cool’ effects on solids, liquids, and gases as we use liquid nitrogen in this large-scale science demo show.
