Detroit, Mich., November 14, 2024 – As the Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) celebrates the opening of the traveling exhibit, “Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family,” the museum will offer a special day for dinosaur enthusiasts presented by Ford Philanthropy on Saturday, November 30th, called Paleontology Day.
Michigan’s paleontology expert, Paleo Joe, will present two exciting hands-on programs at noon and 3 p.m., combining interactive presentations, storytelling, and fossil-digging fun. Throughout the day, kids can join guided fossil digs with Paleo Joe and Mi-Sci’s educators, bringing the ancient world to life for aspiring paleontologists.
Hands-On Exploration and Activities
In Mi-Sci’s interactive Play Lab exhibit, kids can try building dinosaur block structures. Over at the Gamer’s Village, kids can test their skills in a building challenge designed to inspire young engineers. Kids and families can also enjoy fossil tracing activities and explore owl pellet bones in Mi-Sci’s Portal to STEM area, uncovering even more about prehistoric life and the ecosystems of ancient creatures.
Dive Into the World of Tyrannosaurs
On Level 3 of the museum, guests can experience the all-new Tyrannosaurs – Meet the Family exhibit, which showcases an extraordinary collection of towering life-size tyrannosaur skeleton casts, fossils and interactive elements, transporting guests back millions of years to the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
This extraordinary traveling exhibition, supported by Ford Philanthropy, was created by the Australian Museum and is toured internationally by Evergreen Exhibitions. The exhibit is packed with excitement for the whole family, featuring:
- Scotty: A 15-foot skeleton cast from a fossilized T. rex discovered in Saskatchewan.
- T. Rex Cousins: Stand next to life-sized replicas of Daspletosaurus, Albertosaurs, and Lynthronax.
- Displays that show the fascinating connections between birds and dinosaurs.
- Real fossils, augmented reality, and interactives.
