The Michigan Science Center Hosts Hands-On LEGO® Build & Talk through September to Empower Children and Families Around Digital Play

Detroit, Mich., August 18, 2026– From now through the end of September, the Michigan Science Center (Mi-Sci) is excited to offer a new, pop-up experience for families in their PlayLab: LEGO® Build & Talk.

Developed by the LEGO® Group, LEGO® Build & Talk includes a series of hands-on activities to help children, parents, and caregivers start conversations about digital play, build balanced digital routines, and engage playfully around the potential challenges and benefits of digital gaming.

“Play has always been one of the most powerful ways children learn, experiment, and make sense of the world around them, and today, that world includes digital spaces,” said Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center. “LEGO® Build & Talk gives families a fun, hands-on way to explore digital play together, build confidence, and have conversations that help kids become more thoughtful, creative, and empowered users of technology. That’s what we mean when we say we put YOU at the center of science.”

When most people think of LEGO®, they think of the iconic brick—and, indeed, the LEGO® Build & Talk experience includes plenty of brick-building activities for both kids and adults. However, the LEGO® Group’s commitment to play goes beyond the colorful blocks we all know, love, and dread stepping on barefoot.

LEGO® Build & Talk was developed because the way children play is changing, and many families spend more time than ever engaged in video games, online games, apps, and other types of digital play. Moreover, because digital play spaces are not always built with children’s interests and wellbeing in mind, families need strong digital skills to stay safe and thrive online.

According to the 2024 LEGO® Play Well Report, 61 percent of parents say their child knows more about technology than they do, and 63 percent want to understand it better so they can keep up.

Families who want to experience LEGO® Build & Talk can do so at Mi-Sci through the end of September.

In addition to the in-person, pop-up experience hosted at Mi-Sci, families can access free activities and resources related to digital wellbeing at www.LEGO.com/families/digital-play.
